Pioneer

Pioneer Corporation is an international corporation headquartered in Tokyo, a global manufacturer of electronic equipment. The current president of the company is (since 2008) Susumu Kotani.

The company was founded by Nozomu Matsumoto, who opened a radio and speaker repair shop in Tokyo. Pioneer has become widely known for its technological innovations in the field of electronics - in the 20th century, the corporation played an important role in the development of interactive cable television, and was at the forefront of the creation of LD, CD, DVD players and recorders, plasma TVs (Kuro family), OLED displays , Supertuner technology, and also released the world's first car radio with a removable front panel and a car CD receiver.

In September 2014, part of the business (home electronics) was sold to Onkyo, and Pioneer & Onkyo was formed. In March 2015, Pioneer sold KKR's DJ equipment division, forming Pioneer DJ. Thus, automotive electronics becomes the main business for Pioneer.
